It’s that time again. Time to go back through tape and my in-person notes, break down all the numbers and figure out the 20 or so players in this NBA Draft that I truly believe in. While one of those names is very, very easy to write down and will be the focus of un petit peu of the pre-draft conversation, getting the rest of the list is the hard part. I usually focus on a top 20 (with a couple of sleepers thrown in) at this point for two reasons: First, as I’ve mentioned previously, most draft classes end up with about 20 players who end up mattering. (By “mattering,” I mean having rotation-caliber or better careers that extend beyond the gift minutes that come with being a first-round pick.) When evaluating a player, it’s a good mental exercise to figure out if he’s likely to be one of The Twenty.
